Companion Planting

Hi Folks

Ive 2 large containers, Bath tub sized. Im looking to grow chard, spinach, lettuce and beetroot. Can anyone give me any ideas of what combination may work best?

Good choices you could grow them all in row then all of them can be eaten as baby salad leaves so that will thin them out abit then you can leave a few of each plant to grow to a substantial size. Plenty of good compost and chick manure pellets and of course a good watering and you can have crops of all of those in just a few weeks and continually sow new batched until the autumn

Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking of 2 veg types per pot. So Lettuce and Beetroot in one and Chard and spinach in the other would be fine?

Any combination of the plants you've listed should be fine together.

What do you want to achieve nwh? You can grow all sorts of things in 2 bath tub sized containers!
Chard, spinach and beetroot are all the same family but if you want to eat the beetroots - you will have to dig them up - the others, including kale, you can pick a leaf at a time.

That's what I thought
If you want it to look decorative as well as dominant, choose different colours of lettuce, chard, beets and kale. I'm partial to mixed salad leaves, including oriental mustards as there's always something to pick and they're so varied in appearance - but you don't need a bath full of those
