  • Fuschia as a tree.

Is it possible to grow fuschia as a tree? I love it but have nowhere to suit buses or shrubs, I'm looking for trees to plant on a bank and was wondering if I plant one will it grow into a tree if I cut it right?

Here you are - Fuchsia Flower, all you need to know about fuchsias.
Don't expect a Tree sized tree though

I've grown them as standards, but the stems tend to be brittle and I have had the head snap off the stem in windy conditions.

Darwin, you could grow fuchsia bushes in between your trees on the bank, surely.

Well the bank at the minute is allowed to grow wild so little bugs and animals can potter about to their hearts content. I had intended just planting the trees and leaving the bank that way.

I guess some shrubs in between would be nice as long as they survive being surrounded by weeds and very long grass.

Hardy fuchsias would be fine. Had you thought about buddleia for the butterflies?

The only place I've seen fuchsias grown as trees, was Spain, where it's a lot warmer than here
