What should I have in?

I feel like Im running late this year...but is it just me?
I sowed some flower seeds the other day but I havent done any veg yet. Is there anything I should be getting on with? (I only have one decent windowsill, currently 2 trays high!, and Im hoping to get a 4ft x 6ft blowaway next month for the garden).

Don't worry too much. Jim McColl on the Beechgrove Garden was bemoaning the late start and urging people to wait until the soil is ready rather than the packet telling you when to plant.

oh well, if Jim says its alright!
Most stuff that grew well last year was direct sow (carrots, spinach, beetroot, salad) but people seem way more advanced then me with things like tomatoes. Im assuming that they have somewhere warm to put them though!
I think Im late with onions but TBH if I put them in now they cant be any smaller and weedier then last years.

My tomatoes are in the unheated greenhouse during the day if the sun's out, and on the front room windowsill if it's not. I wouldn't say my house is particularly warm though.

Well, I am the other end of the country from you, so I am used to planting out about a month later than you anyway.

If you have a B&M close to you, I noticed they were selling walk in greenhouses for around 18 quid, and octagonal ones for 40, hope that is of use to you

We're all about a month behind, it's not just Kent.

The Garden Centres are having to dump (compost) loads of unsold spring bedding, and they're moaning at Monty Don for saying there's no rush to plant anything yet. Like this cold spring is his fault.

Can't argue with that, however still tried planting some seeds early just couldn't resist. On the whole I think I proved the advice is right, will probably still do the same next year though.

That's incredibly cheap. I've been thinking about getting one to put inside my GH in winter - sort of double glazing! At that price I may have to have one - or two Thanks for the tip

It is not the highest quality VC, but it dies have some guy ropes and pegs with it.

It will however keep the frost off your seedlings until the weather improves a bit.

I am 6ft tall and can stand up in it and it has inbuilt staging in it, so might be ok for the money.

I had one from there. The inbuilt staging is a pain as it is quite weak and doesn't hold anything with much weight. Also, you have no choice over where your shelves go. I re-inforced all the corners with duct tape and tied it down really well. The frame never blew away but the plastic cover ripped at the corners very quickly. I bought a real greenhouse the same year as I was so frustrated.

Im going to be getting a 4ft x 6ft blowaway in a couple of weeks as I cant get a solid greenhouse into the garden...but Im already quite pathetically excited by the prospect!LOL
Esp as I only have one windowsill that seeds seem to do well on and its already stacked 3 high with trays!

Thanks both. I wouldn't use it outdoors - I have 3 GHs already I've been using one of the little blowaways inside a GH through the winter and it has kept the seedlings protected - so something larger would be useful. I'll think about it!!!
