If I'd not grown stuff before I would be getting very worried about how far foward some of the guys on this site are with their veg. My toms, cuces, peppers etc are no where near as advanced but are looking pretty healthy and are as good as in other years when I've had a good crop so there's no way I'm worrying. I've planted up too early in the past and it hasn't really given me much of an advantage and has caused a lot of hassle keeping the frost off etc. OK so you may crop a week or so later but then again you may still be cropping when the first frost comes in the autumn when the early boys have run out of steam. Don't worry, you'll be doing fine, it is only May!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Wow Mrs D. Everything going fab for you - but then you have put the work in.
DDL - it's not a competition so it doesn't matter if somebody else has their crops 2 weeks before you. It will all come good in it's time. We all garden in different climatic conditions with different resources. As you yourself say - just enjoy it - as you do.

May is a great month to start Scruffy Duffy. Things will romp away when you get them going. The only problems with an allotment site (or a grapevine!) is that people will keep comparing themselves with others. We're not in competition with each other but we ARE here to encourage each other. You aren't too late and you WILL get fabulous crops. Best of luck. Little Duffy is a cracker - he'll love 'helping' next year!

Whatever you do do not compare your growth to others. We are harvesting fully grown peas from tiny plant (1ft High) Our neighbours plant are twice the size of our with no sign of edible fruit, other neighbours are only just planting out. Im not convinced our will make it through the season, wait and see.
Not a sign of flower on some of our toms, again other near our plot have been grown outside and are fruiting. Potatoes planted one month between each other are virtually at the same stage of growth. Whats that about!.
Its a learning experience thats for sure.

            Happy growing
