TS I'm now imagining goldfish swimming around in a water butt dodging horse poo and comfrey leaves! And then of course we could have fish and chips in summer - yes I'm pretty sure it's too hot in summer for them. I tried an outdoor fish setting but all the fish got fin rot, and I had to net the pond as the birds were having fish dinners and the vegetarian dog loved to dance in water. They're safer on the kitchen bench.

And thanks for reminding me about the mozzie trap. I need to make some for flies as well. But they usually fill up with flies in about 5 mins. And I should make some of the ones dad made for cabbage moths. Best get busy forcing the kids to drink soft drinks then!

I have filled 2 builders' buckets with chopped nettles and 1 with chopped comfrey - filled with water and left on the plot (about 10 days ago).

Checked on them last night - and yes, I can confirm the smell is putrid.

I was planning to leave for another 10 days and then start funneling the liquid into empty plastic milk cartons to use as a fertiliser throughout the Summer.

The mention of legionella on this thread has filled me with a bit of fear now !!!
