    Oh, they are most impressive Samuel. I've seen them used, and the fuel efficiency is amazing. Virtually all the heat goes into the water, that's the secret. Invented by a Traveller, so I believe. Whoever he was, he was damned clever. They work in any weather, and you can even cook with a pan on top.
    If the National Grid ever fails, I hope I have a Kelly Kettle !

      I few twigs, say a handful. I keep a stash of lavender & bramble prunings, nice and woody, in the shed.
      Plus a few balls of dry newspaper to get it started.
      It takes about 5-10 mins for the water to boil ~ I find that it works better & quicker if I blow in the hole a few times to get the flames going, rather than relying on the wind to do it
