Wise to store tools in mini non-wooden shed/keeping yourself refreshed

Evening all,

I have managed to get my hands on one of those mini shed thingy-me-bobs which come to just about waist high (I hope you know what I am describing?) which are not made from wood, and I was just wondering about the following things:

1. is it wise to put all my tools in this little shed as this may become a target for thieves (I could potentially put it behind the pallet composter I built to hide it a bit/tuck the tools away in the pallet composter)

- I was only going to put in bits and bobs and nothing of value

2. I am hoping to use this little shed to store items which will help refuel me (such as those which are needed to make a good cup of tea!) whilst working down the plot as I think it would be nice to be able to have some refreshments down the plot and not have to trek back home. Does anyone have any 'gadgets' which aid them in making a good cup of tea without the need for electricity? Such as those which may be used for camping. I have never been camping and so I am unsure what as to purchase to help find something to make a nice hot brew (I am using a tea flask as well but it doesn't taste as good!).

Hi Samuel, you could build yourself a rocket stove! They are a really efficient way to heat water with a small amount of wood fuel. Look up rocket stove on YouTube for some designs. I guess with a source of boiling water is probably the hardest thing to get to make a great cuppa.

We use one of the single burner gas rings where you just put one of the small gas canisters in (size of an average aerosol spray) It packs away into it's own plastic box, about a foot square. I've used it for tea, coffee, soup, hot chocolate and the odd stirfry with my wok,

Do you mean you have a plastic storage box Samuel?

If you don't like the taste of flask tea - try taking a flask of hot water and adding your tea bag/coffee when you get there. I drink black coffee so all I need to keep on site is a jar of coffee and a mug

Yep, Asda (it might only be in one of their non-stop stores -Asda Living ??) - do the full shebang.

Stove, gas canister, relevant kettle, etc. for a few quid each.

We have a single burner as well, because our stove top doesn't work. It's great.

Until I made my shed I kept a few tools in a plastic lockbox behind the compost heap. I use a flask for a drink, or a juice bottle for something cold.

Now I use the lockbox to keep the netting in when it's not in use, that and as a bench

Yes, definitely hide it behind something, or grow flowers etc in front and around it. Also move it now & again, so your lotty neighbours don't know where it is all the time.

I've found, sadly, that most lotty thefts are from within the site, not from outsiders

I am into wildlife so I purchased a camera trap a while back so I could put up some signs and let any potential thieving allotmenters know its up (of course I wouldn't leave it on site but just as a fake deterrent).
