Overdoing it!

Why cant I use the space I have wisely?, why do I feel the need to cram as much as I possibly can into my 10ft x 25ft garden!!
The thrill of having a greenhouse this year (even a blowaway one) means that it is now all jungly inside with tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, peppers and basil. The corner that just had bags of potatoes last year has expanded with tubs of blueberries, chard and courgettes. More wall troughs had to go up to house all the extra strawberries (regular and alpine).
And to top it all off I needed another set of greenhouse shelving...not to go in the greenhouse but to put againest the fence coz I can then fit all my salad crops and module sowings in a smaller space!

I have filled every available space, shelf, basket and tub with edibles, shrubs and pretty flowers.....why am I still looking around to see what else I could fit in??LOL

I'm sure there's something else you could fit in eh? I'm trying to fit in as much as possible too; eyeing up fences wondering if the neighbours will mind me attaching things, persuading housemate that we don't really need those non edible plants there, stacking pop bottles and planting into the sides...

I do wonder what the limit is on density. I wish I had a chart of sq M and volume for each plant, then I'd be out there with a tape measure and some callipers. I'm already planning to grab some chicken wire and cement over winter to make some vertical planters.

Im glad Im not the only one!
I think vertical is def the way to grow!! And as for fences I can recommend half baskets wired to fenceposts with tumbling toms (well, all that space along the fence top...it had to have something!!).

I know I shouldn't really encourage you but I'm trying some of these out at the moment, seeing how they perform.

Thanks for that!! Ive just bookmarked the page and Im going to have to start hunting around for bottles!!LOL
(Ive got just enough space between some strawberries and thyme on my garden steps to fit at least one bottle tower!!)

Is vertical the horizontal !

I've got plans for one of them small greenhouses .
Plus a wooden vertical planter .

Though I have got my eye on a pallet from work .

I've already got loads of pack of seeds on offer at the local garden centre .
Mrs Compo unsure where I can sow them, perhaps I'm getting too enthusiastic .

I can relate to this! We were fortunate to find a large veg patch came with our garden, so this year, our third summer here and with the youngest child old enough to amuse himself in the garden, I've planted quite a bit. Then I read Alys Fowler's The Edible Garden and I realise just how much more I could be cramming in!

As I pull up things I'm planting new spring onion and carrot seeds, and today I received two types each of mustard greens, lettuce and kohl rabi seeds, which will be going in tomorrow. At a fete today I bought a(nother) autumn-fruiting raspberry, a tomato and an aubergine. I have six tomato plants, at various stages, and room for plenty more!

ETA Make that eight tomato plants, plus I've just ordered three varieties of carrot, a lettuce and purslane from Suttons.
