  • The veg gardening bug got me!

Moved I to put new house in November last year, I've never been a gardener but I have grown chillies in my wife's green house a few to times over the years..

But as I now work from home I decided I would fix the old green house that was already there on the veggie garden.. I got hooked.. A month later I was planting rows of veg and a few weeks ago I ordered a polytunnel..

Thought you might like to see how's it going so far..

Welcome to the vine. That's one hooge garden you have & it looks like you've got the hang of it already. Looks really good.

Yeah it's massive.. I'm in durham so there's lots of land around, I do know there's a problem with rabbits as we have farmers fields just behind this plot. I was told not to try carrots but I planted them in the raised beds just to see.. The house was built in 1908 so garden is very old and mature, I also have three apple trees that are full of fruit already.. And no slugs because I find frogs and toads everywhere, I felt bad for days when I mowed one accidentally. In fact I've only found slugs inthe greenhouse where they are protected..

So yeah all going well.. Just building a playground area near veg garden so my boys can play while mum and me do the gardening..

Welcome to the Vine Ckirby. I'm so jealous of your garden, it looks wonderful. I know you said in your post that you're in Durham, but could you add that to your profile please? Then it will show up on your posts.

You're so lucky to have so much space right outside your house - no lugging water to the plot etc. Well done on what you've achieved so far. I've got a touch of the green-eyed monster!

Wow now thats what you call a garden for growing! I think you could maybe rent some out to our residents here as they are becoming slightly jealous of that great garden of yours. Great job!!

Wow !!! What a garden - and so flat for Durham.

Been there once (Passport Office) - it was like walking the Streets of San Francisco.

They are a pain that's for sure. You could try making a couple of scarecrows with your boys to act as a deterrent. Not difficulty for one as ambitious as yourself I'm sure!

Mesh covers will work a darned sight better than scarecrows
