How to harvest purslane?

I've grown purslane this year for the first time and it's fantastic, I love it. I snaffled a few leaves earlier as I wandered the veg patch and was bowled over. I have just four or five young plants atm (more germinating) and don't know if purslane is harvested as a whole plant, ie pulled up by the root, or leaf by leaf?

I eat lots of garden salad and seen to spend my life removing small leaves from shepherd's purse, mint, heal-all etc - I need half an hour's head start on serving up supper!

Never grown it but looking at a picture of some I'd say pick by the leaf or stem, like you would a herb or salad leaves.
