  • Any good garden/allotment design books you reconmend?

    Evening all,

I was just wondering if anyone has any good recommendations regarding garden/allotment design?

I have recently acquired my first allotment patch and, although I have worked half of it, I would like some inspiration/practical advice as I don't think normal rows are pleasant looking.

For example, I like the idea of growing beans up a 'teepeee' (not sure if it is spelt correctly!) as opposed to a normal row.

I would love to experiment as its a big learning curve so if anyone could recommend any good books to give some practical advice and inspiration I would most appreciate it !

I like Andi Clevely's "The Allotment Book". Pretty straightforward and good on what to do when.

The Allotment Book eBook: Andi Clevely: Amazon.co.uk: Kindle Store

    (Other retailers are available!)

As far as design goes have a good nose around your site, take some pictures for things you like and don't like. Plenty of pictures on here of people's allotments. Not mine though!
If you have just got your plot I wouldn't do anything too permanent for the first full year as you need to work out how the plot works (sun shade etc) and how you are going to use it. Raised beds are a good example. One fellow plotter on my site put some in then took them out as she kept stepping back and tripping on them!
