  • how good is micromesh

Could anyone tell me if micro-mesh would be a good investment for the vegetable garden, or would I be better sticking with a good quality fleece

It is certainly longer lasting than fleece and can be machine washed. Not sure of it's thermal properties though.

This year I used 3 meter debris netting, this sort of stuff: Blue Debris Netting 3m x 50m - 80GSM, available from lots of places and pretty cheap for a big roll. It worked really well, kept the caterpillars and pigeons off my brassicas just fine.

Wendy, ( It is certainly longer lasting than fleece and can be machine washed. Not sure of it's thermal properties though)
If I put anything from the garden into get washed I would get strung up.

Martin,( Blue Debris Netting 3m x 50m - 80GSM, available from lots of places and pretty cheap for a big roll.)
if it`s cheap it is always pretty.

I've just bought a pair of curtains from that Swedish store for £5 LILL Sheer curtains, 1 pair - IKEA They're huge for the money - 280cm x 300cm. I think Nicos recommended them

Do it yourself then, in a big bendy bucket

Yes, mesh is much stronger than fleece, protects against pests and creates a snug little microclimate underneath it, although you will find that creates a perfect environment for slugs, so take precautions against them

If I started to do washing I would be expected to do all the washing

I like this idea, so I will go and grovel to get the money for this. VC said it cost her £5 so maybe a cup of tea and a wee biscuit while watching the telly will put her Ladyship in a generous mood.
