  • Making a 'lasagne bed' within a raised bed - any advice?

    Morning all,

Yesterday I made around 6 raised beds and they are between 20-40cm in depth.

I still have a lot of weeding to do in other areas of the plot and I have access to a mother load of wood chippings/organic 'browns' at the end of the allotment plots.

I was wondering if the following would work & how long it would take:

Step 1: Layer cardboard on top of the weeds within the raised bed.
Step 2: Put a layer of weeds that have been dug up & put them on top of the cardboard.
Step 3: Put a layer of bark chippings on top of the weeds.
    Step 4: Repeat steps 2 & 3
Step 5: Put a layer of cardboard on top & wait for the worms to do their work.

As I said I have around 6 raised beds so I can put some aside & wait for the stuff to break down to produce some good stuff.

    Thanks for your time,

    Samuel

I'd add in a good layer or two of muck too.

I'd add in several layers of manure, too. I'd also put in kitchen veg waste, if you have any, leaves, and spent compost. You could also add shredded paper at the bottom, but not too much.

Why not try a different version in each bed, and see which is best?
