Hi all Ive got some toms growing but rather leggy why is this?

There is too little light this time of year for growing seedlings indoors unless you have grow lights. You could try repotting them up to their seed leaves. -

I think I'd start again in about a month. Try putting more compost in next time so they are in the light as soon as they have germinated.Comment

Fill the pot up to the top with compost, it won't harm the seedlings and they should produce more roots from the stems. And keep them as light and cool as you can.Comment

I wouldn't bother to be honest. It's several months before you can move them outside and they will be very leggy by then.Comment

pot them on as soon as you can sinking as much of the stem into the pot as is possible. Keep potting them on into bigger pots each time and keep sinking them as far as you can each time. Try to get them into full light as soon as you canComment

But expect to sow more in March, they'll grow better with more light and be a more manageable size when it's warm enough to plant out.

I can tell you what I would do, place a log in your garden, then place a 3ft long plank over it, put the pot on one end and jump onto the other. This will launch it over your hedge never to be seen again.Originally posted by FenBuff View Post
I realy dont think that plants that get a bad start are ever as good as ones that get of to flying start. Its not so much the heat its the hours of daylight that makes them leggy, in another month all will be different.
