  • Planting Timetable

Hi all! As my name suggests, I am a newbie to growing veg but thus far I am enjoying it very much! I have 7 tomato plants, 2 courgettes, 2 cucumbers, 10 runner bean plants and some herbs. Is there anything people would recommend I do? Also, can I plant anything else this month? Thansk for your help!

Hello and welcome to the vine newbietogardening. My suggestions would include purchasing Dr D G Hessayon's "Vegetable and Herb expert" book which is brilliant at showing you how to do it all. Another suggestion would be to keep a notebook and write down everything you do this year with dates etc so that you can see what worked and what didn't for next time. Finally, take it as a learning thing this year and enjoy it all - plant whatever you like to eat and see what grows for you and most of all have fun.
    Happy Gardening,
    Shirley

Hello to you both and welcome to the Vine. It is always worth reading the thread "What I did Today .... " as it gives you a good idea of what others are sowing, planting out etc.

          Good luck!

            Hi Newbietogardening & Carol,

            Welcome to the vine.
I am relative new too to vegetables gardening, and I find it easier to separate things in 2 major category warm for summer and cool for spring and autum ( and may be extended to winter ). I am growing peas, beans, brassicas, carrots,lettuce/ salads, radish , beets ( including chard ), spinach & onions during cool period.
As for tomatoes, courgette, squash( winter and summer ), cucumber, aubergines, herbs ( basils, parsleys, mint... ), artichokes, corn, amaranth... for warm period.
But they are only as an easy guideline for me, certain seed will be sow at the end of spring to be planted for summer( like tomatoes, aubergines ), and some of the veggie can be grown from autum to winter ( brassicas : colards, kale, nero di toscano ) , some can be grown in cool and warm ( like potatoes ) but again, it is really depending on the variety.
Like what Shirley said, reading some vegetables rowing book will give you some guidely and idea about what and when to plant.

            Good luck and happy planting,

            Momol

              Hi and welcome
Every winter I produce a spreadsheet with all the flowers/vegs I want to grow and when to plant.

Then I keep a simple Word document of when I sowed, when I planted out etc.

Then at winter I review the results and produce a new spreadsheet for next year..

I also back up my PC every month:-)))))))))
