Newbie - New Plot

Hi All,

I am new here. I applied for an allotment, May 2012 and have found out on Sunday that I can now have one.

Here are a few photos. Its not a massive plot but hoping it will be good for our first go at growing veg etc.

After doing quite a bit of reading I think our first job is to clear a small area of the weeds ready for planting some potatoes. Also clearing the polytunnel and re-covering most of it.

Can anyone offer any advice on where to get some cheap clear polytunnel plastic and whats the best method of re-covering?

Hello Rosa, congrats,tunnel looks good size,sorry don't know about replacing cover I don't have one, someone else will be able to advise I'm sure.

I had a rummage around and managed to find some more of the same plastic. Not fully inspected it to see if its hole free yet. Just a bit bothered about it not being really clear, as I presume clearer the better for letting sun light in?.

Looks great, you're going to have lots of fun there. There's plenty of time to get some ground cleared and get some potatoes in. I would also be starting off some other stuff, e.g. cabbages, lettuces and so on in modules on those shelves in the tunnel. A bit more light would be welcome but if you can't replace the cover just yet, clean it up as best you can and you'll still be able to grow some stuff in there.

I'd wait and see what it's like on a sunny day, if it does block the sun a bit and no holes you could always use it for all you're brassicas

Thanks for a great welcome.

My wife and son have spent a few hours and have managed to clear quite a bit of the tunnel up.

We have even uncovered some herbs that are growing and some rhubarb
