Have I moved my chilli seedlings too early

Hi all,
sorry for all the constant questions.

I took my chilli seedlings out of my heated prop yesterday and placed them on a warm windowsill, but since then I've been reading that people leave them in the prop a bit longer, and others take them out as soon as they've germinated. I'm a bit confused now. Can someone please take a look at the photo and let me know if the seedlings are looking ok, and whether I should have left them in the prop a bit longer?

I am not a chilli expert but as I understand it once seeds emerge in a propagator they need to come out or they get leggy, unless i suppose you have lights over them. The plants in your pic certainly need light. keep turning them to avoid them growing towards the window.


Oh and don't be sorry about questions it is the life blood of the forum.

I think you have done right although one bit of advice is if you have any kind of drafts on your sills remove them at night time as they will struggle with the cold and also if there's a heater underneath please remove plants from the sill first as I learnt it will fry the foliage

So the radiator underneath the windowsill is a bad thing?? B*&£$r. I thought that would help. Although the heating is actually rarely on at the moment.

It's not a bad thing I had mine on the window sill last year then had snow in April it was freezing so heating went on and fried the leaves simply just pop pops off of the window if you need heating on and your away

the trouble with windowsills is that they're not really light enough and they're very cold at night (near the glass).

Seedlings need more light than warmth, but tender plants do need to be at least 10c day and night, preferably warmer than that

The plants in your pic certainly need light. keep turning them to avoid them growing towards the window.

I know it's only been a day, but roughly how long would it take for the seedlings to start looking less leggy.

Goatreich if you can pot them on deeper into a slightly bigger pot, with mine I use the propergator base as a sort of heat mat without the top and plug into a timer so it's on at night

Ah ok, so speed up the potting on stage? There's only one with any true leaves at the moment so I was going to wait. I'll do that then. Cheers.

I try and leave mine as long as poss so I'm getting them deep as poss when I repot just In case they go leggy again lol
I think you'll be alright though and doubt they'll go that leggy again once you repot them
