  • Best place to order seeds online?

Could someone recommend the best place to order seeds online?

I am stuck at home at the moment with a broken boned teenager so would be good to have them delivered.

    Many thanks

Seeds-by-Size was recommended to me by LJ and i found them to have an excellent selection, reasonably priced and quickly delivered! Good service!

You can order as many (by weight) as you need. The guy who runs it is called Mr Size so the Seeds by Size has a dual meaning!

Depending on what you are looking for Noidea, I've used this company and been happy. Better prices then T & M. Worth a look.

Thanks Alice... will have a look!

Am combining a wee list and now I feel more confident and the neighbours are getting used to seeing things like carrots in Ikea bags, I have loads more options!

All Thompson and Morgan seeds are half price at the moment. I ordered lots yesterday and also when you spend £10 they give you one of your choices free.

The real seed company promote heritage and open pollinated varieties which have stood the test of time. I can really recommend them for different varieties, service and the bonus that you can save seed from all of the varieties they sell.

                Do try them.

And you get a handy little plant label in each packet if I remember correctly!

You do indeed Snadger and it is very easy to use as (generally) are the instructions.

                      Noidea,
I've been using Suttons Seeds (www.suttons.co.uk) for almost 30 years and I've always had great results with them. Excellent seed, good germination and quality crops. They have a very good range of vegetable and flower seed to suit most gardeners. Nice website, easy to order, free postage and good service. I'm happy to recommend them.

Last year, I availed of Thompson and Morgans 50% off offer (seeds.thompson-morgan.com/uk/en), (which is currently running again) to try their seed for the first time. Their seed otherwise is a bit expensive so the 50% offer was attractive. Just remember, their selling off the last of their seed before this years new harvest so you might be buying seed that you won't use until next year except maybe for some perennials that you can plant later this year for flowering next year. Huge selection of seed with very helpful growing and cultivation tips, an excellent info source.

My order got lost and it took a several emails and a months wait before i got my seed. From reading their guest book, their order handling and customer care can be a little hit and miss. Definitely worth a look for the current 50% offer offer and for the helpful info. Their seed is very good quality and I'll probably but some again this week.

This year I ordered seed from Moles Ltd (www.molesseeds.co.uk) an Essex based supplier of seed to commercial growers. Ordering was easy and delivery was free, fast and efficient. While the smallest packet or seed quantities might be a little too large for smaller gardeners, they do represent terrific value. Great if you can share an order (or packet) with a friend or a few neighbours. Commercial quality seed is always of the highest quality compared to even what "ordinary" gardeners use and it's worth using if you can get it. I was very pleased with Moles and their seed and I'm happy to recommend them to anyone and will use again.

I'll just list some more online seed suppliers that I've come across, apart from Mr. Fothergills and Unwins, I haven't used anyone elses seeds from this list. I've added some comments for some of the suppliers.

                      Johnsons Seeds (http://www.johnsons-seeds.com)
                      Mr Fothergills (http://www.fothergills.co.uk/) Good range
Dobies (www.dobies.co.uk) v similar to Suttons
                      Unwins (www.unwinsdirect.co.uk)
                      Nicky's Seeds (www.nickys-nursery.co.uk)
                      Simpsons's Seeds (www.simpsonsseeds.co.uk)
Chiltern Seeds (www.chilternseeds.co.uk) Huge range but doesn't state numbers of seed per packet
                      Marshalls Seeds (www.marshalls-seeds.co.uk)
                      DT Browns Seeds (www.dtbrownseeds.co.uk)
Alan Romans (www.alanromans.com) v good prices, not a big selection though
Seeds of Italy (www.seedsofitaly.com) Seems to be liked by many Grapeviner's, good prices and lots of seed for your money!
Garden Seeds (www.gardenseeds.co.uk), nice selection at keen prices
                      King's Seeds (www.kingsseeds.com)
Seed-By-Size (www.seeds-by-size.co.uk) Commercial growers, complicated website to follow.
CN Seeds (www.cnseeds.co.uk/) Commercial growers, similar prices to Moles,
                      ProVeg Seedswww.provegseeds.com Commercial growers, expensive

                      Hope this helps,
