Depends on what you mean by a polytunnel but assuming you mean a walk in type structure then yes, just as good. I grow most of mine in my tunnel.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
I have a large polytunnel and get fantastic tomato crops. I think being able to plant in the soil, the added height for tying them up and the conditions generally are excellent for tomatoes.
Do you want to heat them, to raise a crop early in the year? That might favour Glass.
I bought a 12' x 10' glass house, second hand off eBay, for "propagation" and had planned to buy a larger Polytunnel for "cropping" but a 30' x 10' glass house came up on eBay for £400 so I bought that instead.
If you DO change your mind and want to raise plants early, that's no problem as you can simply fix up a home made heated propagator inside the polytunnel. Mine is made from soil warming cable fixed inside a large tray, covered with sand, and then a plastic enclosure over it with a piece of polycarbonate as a 'lid'. Works fine.
