Pot on leeks?

    Mine are often tiny when they go out in June (eek, this month!), disappear into their dibbed holes and can be the size of my arm by the first frosts.
    I sow a couple of hundred in a large pot and the first year potted them on and have to say they were no bigger at harvest time than when I haven't bothered.

    Just found this picture of mine just before planting out in 2013

      PyreneesPlot: I agree I don't think it makes a difference to final size if you pot them on or not. Our neighbours always plant them out when very wee and ours are bigger because I plant them in a clump in the ground, but they always end up around the same size. Personally, though I find they thicken up when planted out and it's much easier to dib a thicker leek than a blade of grass
