Two questions about compost/weeds

1. I've been gradually clearing my plot over the past year and have created an enormous heap of mainly perennial weeds. I still have about a quarter to clear, so the heap is only going to get bigger. My question is, what do I do with it? Presumably, I can't create compost from it? And I don't even want to think about how long it would take to bag it all up and take it to the dump - it would be several journeys. Is burning it the only option?

2. I live on an estate of blocks of flats, with lots of lovely green areas. The council has mown the grass today, as they do every few weeks in the summer. I would love to gather up a bag or two of the cuttings for my compost bin, but I suspect there are quite a lot of weeds in among the grass - including dandelion seeds. Would it be more trouble than it's worth in the long term? Seems a shame not to make the most of it.

there was someone here who dug a pit for their weds and put them all in, covered it up for a year and was left with lovely soil/compost at the end of it.
Personally, I throw them in a bin/plastic cuket and leave them for a year, then scoop off the bottom half when it's rotted down.

The grass cutting from the lawn[ha!] and the next doors lawn go in lumps over any area with weeds or areas I want to keep weed free. There are a lot fo dandelions, but they're in areas I don't tidy too well....

Of course you can. You can (and should) make compost from everything biodegradable.

Exactly what weeds are we talking about?
You can kill nearly everything by blocking its light for 6-12 months. Cover your weed heap with carpet (if you're allowed to use it) or layers of wet newspaper/card (that'd be easier if the heap was level and flattish, rather than high & rounded).

Or, bag it all up in double black sacks for 1-2 years, like you would leafmould

It's mainly dandelion, bindweed and and bramble - plus a lot of other stuff I haven't identified but have lobbed on there anyway. Sounds as if double black sacks are the way to go - I can stack them up behind the shed.
