Is it ok to do this with my Tomato plants

I'm not getting enough direct sunlight for my tomato plants due to the location of my greenhouse. It gets a good dose in the morning and evening but not much inbetween.

Is it ok to take them out in the garden if it's a nice sunny day with little wind?

Also, is this the start of flowering? i.e. the bit in the middle?

Yes you could but it is an awful lot of lugging and when the plants get big it will be rather difficult. Imagine trying to move a plant that is growing on one stem and at least 5ft tall and with quite a big spread even if it is well staked. You could move them until they become too large to move easily.

I don't mind the labour intensive part of sticking them outside during the day. I work from home so it's not a problem.

I just remembered. I haven't staked the plants (they're about 2-3 ft high). Would it be ok to stake them now? Would it damage the roots?

You are fine to stake them now..just don't pierce the main stem

If they have flowered then I wouldn't bother moving them as they are obviously happy where they are. Instead of canes, can you tie string to the top of the GH then push the bottom of the string into the pot. Then just twist the leader round the string.

If you had them on a trolley you could push them outside, reminds me of the scene in the Godfather, "Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in"
However if they are cordon types they will soon be unmovable. I have just the same problem with mine, they will probably just take longer to ripen.

Some varieties of tomatoes are ok outside all the time. What are you growing?

Tomatoes do not need full sun all day, its the warmth they like.

I'm growing Rosada and Alicante varieties. I had a Beef Tomato plant but it looked liked it was getting blight so I removed it quickly.
