    Hello you lot.

My second earlies are coming up (Wilja)

At what point do i start to cover them over again ?

And how much more earth do I put on them ?

I have got 2 rows of these, they have not all appeared at the same time so some have been up a week or so and some are just popping up now.

    Thanks

    Mick

You should have no more frost now, so no need to cover them over at all. It would only block the light and slow them down; at this time of year you want them to grow as fast as possible.

You can pull soil up against the stems when they are big enough that you can do this without blocking the light from the leaves. This encourages a crop to form higher up where it is easier to get at them. It also keeps the roots warm.

Ah right ok, there was me thinking you had to cover them over like how you would if you were growing them in a container, so you get a bigger crop.

I'll earth them up like you said

      Thank you :-)

you don't cover them up in a container either.

You just earth up the stem as it grows, leaving the leaves in the light, so they can photosynthesise
