Fresh manure

Another wee question.
Can get fresh cow manure from local farm. Problem is I have no room to store it for a year or so to let it rot down.
Would it be harmful to dig in the fresh cow manure later on in the year, say Oct/Nov/Dec? Would it cause problems with next years crop?

It depends on how "fresh" , it would be better used as a mulch if its not been composted , less chance of damaging tender roots & the worms will mix it over winter and improve your soil structure

So just spread it out on the surface and leave over winter? Should I also cover the area during winter.

if you are getting it in bags, leave it to rot in the bags round trees and under hedges and behind sheds etc.

Better yet cover the beds in cardboard and put the manure ontop , the cardboard will suppress the weeds and will be gone by spring

Don't you just love cardboard

I would worry about weed seeds. I will never use horse poo again after spending hours pulling out hundreds of nettle seedlings from my beds. Be careful handling it. It is safer than dog poo, but you can still pick up infections.

Tonight I witnessed a horse (from the stables I get my manure) gauging on nettles............. I may have to re-think my strategy.
