Thinking of utilising shed ceiling space to store crops/bamboo canes - how to do it?

Evening all,

I wish to make use of the ceiling space in my shed/study area to store bamboo sticks/hang onions etc and I was wondering how best I can do this?

I have screwed in some cup hooks, tied sticks in bundles, then hooked the string over the cup hooks.

Get some of these from Wilkos ( 5 for a quid) & screw them to the top of the wall.

I would string from side to side at 2 foot intervals. Or if you want a stronger structure, get some L brackets and fix wooden lats from side to side.

That can't be a shed. There's space on the walls AND the floor, and you can see out of the windows!

I have little wooden struts screwed to the roof batons to make a support triangle under the eaves. My shed is 6' long so I have two supports and thread the canes over the struts and under the eaves. Store my 8' ones on the outside of the shed on industrial sized hooks.

Looking at the pic, I'd be tempted to nail a couple of battens to the ceiling joists & just slide your canes in. You could also screw some hooks into the joists for your onions.

That's what I meant but was having brain freeze and couldn't find the right words

That's a great idea. I think I've got some spare coat hooks in the loft, if I screw those to the shed they might well do the trick...

I used to store my 8' ones in horizontal drainpipes fastened to the shed.

I have a long pallet secured upright, slot the canes vertically into it.
Easy to see what you want, access....if canes are 8' in a roof space you need room to be able to pull them in and out?

You pull them out through the door as they're below roof eaves height, so long as they're a couple of inches shorter than the shed then you're fine

I use ceiling (bike) hooks to hang my watering cans on, also bags of netting when it isn't in use. And I have a set of hooks on the inside of the door where I keep all my hand tools - easy to spot from a distance (ie the other end of the plot). I have large guttering clips on the shed walls to pile bamboo canes horizontally, though I take the 8 footers home to the garage for over winter. That way I can also dunk the ends in wood preserver in the autumn so they are ready for next year. If I remember!
