I have 4 rows of different peas and in 2 of them some of the plants have withered away. Any ideas what causes this? Or is this normal and you always loose a few?

My experience is that once away, peas are pretty tough, I lost a lot last year with mildew though so this year I have a more resistant variety. But that effected the lot not just odd plants.photo album of my garden in my profile http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...my+garden.html

- planting out at the wrong time (eg. might be too cold, or too dry)
- they might be in a particularly dry bit of soil
- there might be ants' nests, whose tunnelling disturbs the roots & eventually can kill the plant
- cutworm will sever plants at the root
- as will a clumsy hoe
