Pull back some of the leaves and press your nail into one of the kernels, if the juice is milky then it is ready to eat (I love to eat them raw) and if it is still clear, leave it for bit longer

When the cobs are looking nice and fat ease back the greenery on one of them and push your fingernail into one of the hopefully even, yellow plump corn. If the juice runs clear it isn't ready but if it is milky it is.
