  • radishes

I think I may have made a mistake with my radishes. I sowed A LOT of seeds in a smallish window box, now the whole window box is filled with the greenery part, but I've pulled a couple up and there is no sign of any baby radishes. will they grow anyway or should I separate the window box a bit and plant them into bigger pots?
but then again I have a few radishes well spaced out in 2 large pots and when I pulled one of because I was curious there where no baby radishes there either.

Thin them out Salina and give them a chance to swell up. They don't usually transplant well. You can use the green tops though, either as a (strongish) salad leaf or wilted like spinach.

okay thanks. just to be sure, thinning out means cutting off some of the green parts right? and are they safe to eat how they are now?

Hi Salina, thinning out is just where you pull up some of the seedlings out of the soil so you have bigger gaps between the others that are left in the ground. This will give them room to swell up as Flummery said above.

When did you sow them? I asked this question a while ago as I thought I had failed in growing them as I had plenty of leaf but no bulb. It turned out I was just being impatient! I now have giant radishes despite sowing too many

If you only sowed them recently, there is plenty of time! the ones I had from 31 March only came into their own last week. Now I have loads and more to come in my next lot of sowings too

I think I sowed them sometime in april or may. I should really keep a ''when I sowed what'' diary lol. It'd be easier :P

sow them about an inch apart and not all at once...when you pull some, sow some more
