Block planting rather than in rows - is good, because you can fit in more plants. Just remember to leave enough room to reach them for weeding/harvesting (I use stepping stones)

I block plant everything! My spuds are looking particularily good. earlies block planted at 12" spacing and maincrop at 15" spacing. My beds are all 4foot wide so a bit of trial and error is essential! After about 20 years you'll get the spacing right!
