Hi I was gifted my greenhouse in spring this year I absolutely adore it . I have used mainly plug plants this year to get started . My chilli plants are big healthy and many of them have lots of chillies growing especially my Chinese space pod chilli plant . The fruit is long and looks great but has been green for weeks with no colour change . Am I doing something wrong ? Or am I being impatient . I stay just outside Glasgow so starting to worry about the weather starting to get cooler ! Any advice would b greatly received

Hello & welcome to the vine Gem, is your plant inside or out with you mentioning the weather. It will change colour but just takes time. They prefer a warm environment.
Edit: Sorry, missed the greenhouse bit.....it's an age thing.........Last edited by Bigmallly; 12-08-2014, 09:47 AM.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”

Hi Gem, welcome to the vine.
If you can be patient enough your chillies will turn colour but you can use them green. If you have loads they will freeze for later use, just pop them in a bag and in the freezer then de-seed when you come to use them. No need to defrost first.Gardening requires a lot of water - most of it in the form of perspiration. Lou Erickson, critic and poet

Welcome Gem.
Chillies do need a long growing season to turn red and mature with some varieties needing up to 11 months with the UK's relatively weak sunshine. However, they can survive a little cold so don't over-worry!
I pick and freeze some green, then pick some when they have first turned red and a few I leave for as long as possible to go a really deep red - these tend to be the hottest. I bring plants into the house for final ripening, they need warmth but don't need light at that stage.
You can also overwinter thee plants and they will grow quicker next year.
Good Luck! The proof of the growing is in the eating.
Leave Rotten Fruit.
