Anyone have any experience of growing sweet pepper oda ?

I have a sweet pepper oda plant that has lots of peppers on it about 3 inches long 1 1/2 inches wide - they grew really quickly and now seem to be stunted at this size - they are still very dark purple almost black - do they need to get bigger and lighter before ready to harvest and eat . I tried one the other day and it was very bitter but I was reading that the purple peppers can be bitter so not sure if the oda peppers just taste like that or I picked to early .
