Do you use your shed roof for anything?

Morning all,

I was just wondering if anyone uses the space on their shed roof for anything?

I am thinking of getting a small solar panel to put on the roof and maybe make use of the rest of the space?

If you do I would love to hear what you use it for and it would be nice to see some picks

Mine is just used to harvest water.

I built my shed with a flat roof which was then decked to create water drain space then I put raised beds on it use it for growing all sorts but mostly for leaving some of my flowers go to seed so can havest for the next season doesn't really matter what they look like up there

Did you have to strengthen the roof much for all that extra load? Am guessing the raised beds are pretty heavy.

When I build it a used laminated I beams 3x8 on 12" centre haven't Had any probs with it and the she's is 20' x 12' with the beams running the 12' width

Just for comparison... That is roughly twice as strong as domestic wooden floors, which would have 24" spacings as a maximum...

Ye I did look into before I built knowing it was gonna take a fair bit of the garden the misses still wanted a place to grow

I wouldn't dare put anything on my shed roof because there is so much weight handing from the inside of it - plaits of onions and garlic. I am always a bit scared it will collapse under the weight, on the plus side I doubt the roof will ever blow off.

My garden shed roof is corrugated plastic, and I've put a shelf under it, so's I can use it as a giant cold frame. Unfortunately it's North sloping - it was built by a non-gardener. Still, it gets a fair bit of light and warmth.
