  • Where to put my pumpkin?

I have acquired a pumpkin plant! Now not sure where to place it.

My beds are already spoken for... except the void inbetween the runner beans?? Would this do, or not?

Or I have plenty of B&Q buckets at present?... or do I need to dig away in my flower bed to find space?

    Thanks

I am going to let mine scramble through my sweetcorn a-la three little sisters but only two!
If this sounds gobbledegook do a search on three little sisters!

I don't know if it will work or not but I've put two squash plants in between my bean wigwams. I was hoping they'd keep the ground covered and I'd get two crops for the price of one.
Well, you don't know till you try.

I take it from your statement that you have not grown a pumkin before well if it's the wrong sort it can take over you plot the pumkin growers on our site seem to grow the sort that spread everywhere good luck jacob

No - I've not grown anything before... apart from a belly!

Don't know what sort it is... I don't want to risk my beans if this will take over??

I read they need sun! I do have a spare spot but its at the top of my garden and the back of my house is south facing - which means its a north facing fence!

LOL or shall I just stick it in the middle of the lawn and see what the dog thinks?

          Poor plant... needs a home

I'm a beginner too really but I've risked one in a B&Q bucket!

It will need plenty of space, about 70cm2 as a rule. Otherwise it will grow stunted, and won't produce as much or as well....the perils of a small garden eh!

Not a pumpkin, but I'm growing a couple of squash in the spare wooden compost bin. Left a bit of compost in the bottom and topped it up a bit with a grow bag. Bit of an experiment....... and I'm running out of space!

I'll let you know how mine does Jan - I've got some in the ground as well, so I should have a useful comparison. Looking forward to hearing how you get on!

The short answer is YES as they like a warm root run apparently!

If you are after the monsters though they normally root where they touch the soil giving them extra nutrients!
