  • Anyone know what this is please.

We've lived in this property for almost 4 years and never seen this.
the flower is on the same plant, we thought it was a clematis, can't find any reference on other websites, wondered if anyone can help us to identify it please.

    Mike.

Is it a passionflower??? Looks similar to me and it looks like an unripe passion fruit although I'm not saying it's edible.

Someone who knows what they are talking about will be along in a minute.

Omg!! I can answer a question!!
Yes it passiflora (passion flower) we have one in our garden, I think they are quite hard to grow but ours is doing fine (and its been attacked by a tree cutter). Don't eat the fruit as I don't think it's edible. Ours flowers from August to first frosts.

That's all that was in our garden when we moved in. Managed to get rid of them all fairly rapidly as I really don't like them. They self seed from the fruit quite easily. The fruit is edible but not very nice so you probably wouldn't want to bother.

Thanks everyone, fantastic! it's had lots of flowers on it all through the summer and looks stunning, I'll give the fruit a miss then! never seen that on it before.
We'll take a lot more care of it from now on.
            Thanks again all.

            Mike.
