Successful transplanting of young fig trees?

Evening all,

Someone has been very kind to allow me to take their two young fig trees (about the size of a person) & I was wondering how best to do this so that they wont die?

Any tips?

If they need digging the first thing you need to do is assess the weight, do not go pulling on the trunk & injuring yourself. I've never moved an established tree but if I was to do so, I would:
Fasten a piece of wood or broom handle to trunk near the base in a + shape.
Dig around the tree approx 3ft diam & 2ft deep.........with assistance, lift the handle & assess the weight.
When the root ball is free, lift it out & place on an old sheet.
Tie the sheet around the handle at opposing corners to keep the rootball intact.
Move the tree & rootball with assistance by carrying the handle.
Emphasis on safety.
As I say, I have never done this so be careful. Even a small tree plus soil can be really heavy.

They need digging up. They are around 1 metre tall I reckon. Between 2-3 years old.

If they are only a coupe of years old, you may be able to manage them by yourself, just watch your back.
