Manure - what NOT to plant

I will be spreading manure over my allotment during the next month. It is fairly fresh. - It is being spread to create new beds, rather than around existing plants

What can I NOT plant -apart from roots (why is this?) when we get round to spring?

Fresh manure burns the plants,as for roots it is said to make them fork,as it's to rich,cover it up on your beds over winter,let the worms do their job,

I plant roots in manured soil and suffer no more forking than I do in none manured, but Lottie is right about burning plants

For new beds I would put it on everywhere, and if the soil is not in really good heart I would put plenty on, first time around. For me the possible side effects of some nitrogen lost from the soil, to aid the rotting process, or forking roots in next year's crops, would be secondary to getting the soil into good heart in as few seasons as possible.

But I live on heavy clay that is more use for making bricks than growing things!
