My garlic and red onions are growing like mad things!

Ok they are supposed to hybernate for winter but both garlic and red onions are growing really, really well.
Both were planted 3rd week of Oct
Are they going to surive the winter (if we have one) and is there anything I can do to slow down these perky little blighters?

They'll be fine once the temperature drops they'll go into hibernation and set off again in the Spring.....

Brilliant - I still might get some onions and garlic next year. Mind you our bulbs are making a break for it as well so I forsee a late spring again.

leave well alone till next spring. one word of warning. i have yet to get my red onions not to go to seed. so good luck.

Mine are similar. Some of the garlic I planted (Carcassonne Wight, Lautrec Wight and Early Purple Wight) has gone off like a green rocket! It's unbelievable. *Thinks - maybe it really is worth buying expensive seed garlic*

Mine have taken off totally - it is still so mild- so maybe I will need to fleece soon if the weather turns wintry - but who knows, as we may be in for another mild winter!

Same here: garlic and onions are shooting up like a rocket. Which is more than I can say for my rocket.

Thanks all - everything that should'nt be growing is. My borage looks lovely althouh shorter than normal it is covered in flowers. It does look like a late winter is going to happen again doesn't it - Ho Hum!

... and it was especially warm this year. Sometimes you follow all the rules, then Nature has a right laugh at you.

My Jap onions are "too tall" as well, but they're just going to be left to get on with it.

Erm....why do have registration plates on your raised beds?
And are there tax discs on the other end?
We need to know BM....it's going to bug me all day now

If nature laughs at some of our demands Mother Nature is probably permantly wearing incontinance pants because of me and my heroic attemps at growing (and I use that term tongue in cheek) things to eat.
Oh I have found out that all of my Green In The Snow mustard (more like spindley thing in the mud) vanished not because of slugs or birds etc but because our elderly greyhound really likes it.
