I have family friend who has 2 old ponies.. i get all they produce, collected every month and layered with spent hops in heaps covered with cardboard for 12 months, then just spread over the soil in November for the worms to dig in for me.Last edited by arpoet; 06-01-2015, 07:09 AM.

I don't go out of my way to select any specific manure, but I have to hand hen and rabbit manure, and a friend is an organic beef farmer, so that's what I tend to use.
I was given a huge delivery of very mature donkey doo a few years ago and greatly regretted it as it was clearly full of weed seeds which hadn't been killed off during the composting process....needless to say I have several more varieties of weed to have to contend with ."Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... Horse usually more readily available and relatively cheap. Also what I was brought up with/ all my Dad ever used.

Get some roots of Bocking-14 variety, which has sterile seeds. Should be readily available from other plotholders on an allotment, or eBay. Just roots will do, it grows easily enough so you don't need a plant, per se.K's Garden blog the story of the creation of our garden

... because that's the manure what I've got
(why do I compost dog poop? because I don't think the taxpayer should pay to dispose of my pets' waste; I put as little as possible into landfill; I compost absolutely anything that can be composted)
