Sweetcorn advice

I've never grown sweetcorn before but thought I'd give it a go in pots in the greenhouse. What I would like to know is if this is feasible and if so, what size of pot would I need for each plant once germinated? Thanks in advance.

Sweetcorn

Sweetcorn are pollinated by wind, so although advisable to start off in a greenhouse must be moved outside in order to fruit properly. Also it is best not to plant in rows to allow for changes in wind direction.

Not scrictly true, you can grow sweet corn in a greenhouse and many do, you will just need to give the plants a shake to help pollination

Many thanks for the advice guys...........but what about pot size? I'm guessing this is gonna be critical, especially the depth?

We grew sweetcorn outdoors in Dundee in a block and it did quite well, I think it needs a lot of sun though.
Starting it off in pots, not very deep actually, one of those long low trough things (about 1ft deep) held about 5 plants. I mean obviously as they get bigger this is not ideal, but they managed ok and as we were feeding them anyway they reached about 4.5 ft before we thought they needed more room.

Dug mine up after cropping last year; the roots weren't very deep at all, tho there were anchored to the ground well.

If yours are in pots in the wind then you'll want to make sure they don't blow over.

This person grew 7 plants in each 30L pot .... seemed to work for them, although is contrary to what I would expect.

Thanks very much guys, I'm definately gonna give this a go. I love the idea of 7 plants in one pot but figure it might be a bit excessive, maybe try 4 or 5.
