  • Crops after spuds advice

    Hi,
The lady next to me is giving up her plot and I have been asked if I want this small strip of area back. Very long story how it ended up with another plot but now its back with mine.
Anyway the lady last year grew about 8 potato plants on this one area if that. I was thinking about putting my cabbage and sprouts there this year but was wondering if I could with crop rotation.
The two beds are very weedy and apart from the 8 potato plants haven't had anything else grown in them apart from weeds.
Am growing some asparagus from seed so might use one of these areas as a site for them. Could I put them in after the brassicas or would it be best to manure it and leave it for the asparagus to go in?
    Thanks

Sounds fine to me. TBH if you want to bring the extra strip into your crop rotation even if you grew Potatoes again I think it would be fine - just in order to get it into the correct rotation, going forwards.

If you took a new plot on you probably wouldn't know what the original owner had planted / where

I seem to remember that Asparagus after Potatoes is not recommended ... but ... I only found that out after I planted my Asparagus (after Potatoes ...) and mine seem fine. Getting the bed weed-free before planting Asparagus would be my priority - so perhaps cover it with [and plant-through] cardboard / weed suppressing membrane this year?
