  • Newbie could do with some advice.....

Hi, I am very new to this forum, I usually talk dogs or horses, and am finding it very informative.

I could do with a bit of advice if poss.......can anyone tell me how to propagate seeds from an acer. They look like little sycamore seeds, the things we all played with as kids, but I'm not sure what to do with them. Do they need drying out or just planting? Any advice would be taken on board and tried out, many thanks - a real beginner!

Welcome to the Vine beginners luck. I find the acer seeds germinate quite well. I just planted them in compost in a seed tray and covered them over with about 1/4 inch. I left them outside on a north facing windowsill with a little bit of wire netting over them to stop the blackies howking in the tray. 6 germinated and are doing well. The seeds had been hanging on the plant, or lying round about it all winter. Good luck.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

I'd agree with Alice. They are hardy plants so don't need special treatment. Being kind I'd stick em in my unheated greenhouse but I'm soft like that
