  • Beetroot problem

    Hi,
Last year I tried to grow beetroots in a couple of tubs. I grew radishes just fine abut the beetroot were just leaves and root system no 'bulb' eating bit. They were in a deep pot and in MPC.
Was wondering why was this and what can I do to get a beetroot crop this year?
    Thanks

How deep was the pot? And how far were they spaced? Mine did the same in a 10in pot, and I have since found a recommendation to sow in an 18in deep pot. Not sure I will try it though as they do well on my boggy soil.

I grew mine in a raised bed last year (8" deep) filled with mpc and most did just fine however, I did noticed that the ones I didn't thin out sufficiently didn't grow nearly as largely as the well thinned ones. Maybe this is more important than depth of pot?

The pot was really deep and I sowed them really thinly to save myself a job. So I don't know what went wrong.

Did you water well during the growing cycle, a beet is approx. 87% water, no water no harvest.
