  • Oh no! Missold plot?

I've just had quite a shock!

I've just been down to the allotments and found that several of my things have been taken out of my shed and a sign with a different plot number put on the door.

I suspect the allotment manager has messed up and told me part of someone's plot was actually mine! If this suspicion is correct the plot is much, much less desirable and I'm generally rather annoyed. (and also feel pretty bad if I've upset another plot-holder!)

Has anyone got some advice on the politics of this sort of situation?

The only advice I can offer is to find the person in charge and ask them what has happened. You have a lease, I think, and presumably have paid rent.
Is the shed yours and on your plot?

I haven't put it up - it was there already on the bit I was shown and told was part of my plot.

But now I'm thinking the man from the council may have got it all wrong. There's no on-site person so I'll have to wait until he's in the office on Tuesday.

I couldn't remember you mentioning there was a shed - sorry, I'm easily confused

I don't think I did mention it - I just posted about the bits I needed help with before. So don't worry - it's not you!!

I've been trying to think if *I* could have made a mistake with this, but he didn't just show me the plot, he walked me around it and I specifically asked about boundaries. But then the person who has moved things about has presumably been there awhile and knows their boundary. So I think the council-man must have made a mistake.

Don't assume you are in the wrong before you've spoken to someone.
Occasionally, when a plot is given up, the previous tennant makes a 'gentleman's agreement' with a neighbour...."you can have my shed/greenhouse/water butts when I go mate"....which is all well and good if the new owner removes them before the end of the lease. After that, everything belongs to the new tennant.

If you assume from the outset that the mistake was yours, everyone will simply agree with you.
But I think that you chose your plot based, in part, upon there being a shed for your use and if that is no longer the case you should be given the option to choose another or get a refund.

                Good morning!

The allotment manager confirmed he made a mistake. Apologised. Re-measured the plot and reduced my rent.

I'm pretty annoyed with him, but there's not a lot anyone can do about it now.

On the up side at least it is now all yours to plot and plan as you wish. Well done you for getting it sorted out.

Glad its sorted even if its not what you wanted. Hope you hadn't done any work on the bit that wasn't yours
What about the shed? Was it yours?

I'd done a bit of work on the bit that isn't mine, but not too much. Shed isn't on my plot, which is quite annoying. Oh well!

Main concern now is if I've upset the neighbours. Hopefully I will catch them down there tomorrow to explain, but thought I'd leave a note apologising etc if not.

I imagine they've gone on there thinking "who the hell has been messing with my stuff!" But it was a genuine mistake, and I don't think I did anything that would ruin their plans, so hopefully it'll be OK. Fingers crossed for someone reasonable.
