Can carrot seedlings be planted out in a raised bed under a small poly tunnel ?

  • #2
Carrots don't really transplant very well as if the tap root (the bit that becomes the carrot) gets damaged then it won't form properly in the ground. But you've sowed in loo rolls or similar which are transplanted out as a whole then it should be OK. Personally I think it's now warm enough to sow under cover and have some germinating in my polytunnel.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Excellent, il get them planted out tomorrow, someone local on gumtree giving away 4-5 tonnes of top soil for free so il take the opportunity and take a ton or two and fill raised beds as the ground I have is full of rubble unfortunately.

Agreed but if they are already growing and going into a tunnel they should be fine. I sowed in my tunnel a few weeks ago now and they have just reached the"romping away" stage of growth. One thing you could do is erect the tunnel and let it warm the soil up before you transplant/sow direct.

PS. I just don't have enough time to say hello to everyone as they join so please take this as a delighted to see you here!
