Russian red kale

Hi,
I'm trying this kale after last years was eaten by every caterpillar in the garden.hoping to get at least some baby leaves from these plants .
How best to protect them from caterpillars ?

Debris netting, other small hole mesh or enviromesh/veggiemesh held up on canes (with cans/bottles on ends) or water pipe hoops.
