  • Yet another Courgette question

A funny thing happened to me at the local grocer. I brought myself a courgette and mentioned that I am growing some and that it was my first time. He said that his father is growing them and that the first year they do not grow as big as the 2nd and 3rd year. I did not know that courgettes are perennials. If so what happens at the end of the growing time before frost?

One confused person (it doesn't take much!).

    courgettes are annual!

Maybe he was referring to the weather affecting their growth and production over the previous years?????

Maybe he was confusing courgettes with strawberries.

Maybe his father lives abroad in some hot country where they might keep on growing?

Wonder if he means if they are grown in the same area each year. apart from that I'm confused.

I may have got my wires crossed and misunderstood. At least my confusion has been answered and I can go back to my garden world.

Maybe he means by utilizing the seeds from the previous years crop? Natural selection of the biggest and best plants should improve strain over a number of years.

That makes sense. I am happier now because I don't feel confused anymore or think I am going mad!

Next time you go in, ask him! Because what he's said makes no sense at all! He's probably confused himself too!
You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...

I'm an official nutter - an official 'cropper' of a nutter! I am sooooo pleased to be a cropper! Hurrah!
