Chilli Seedlings have stopped growing!

Hi there,

I was hoping somebody could offer some advice. I have successfully germinated three chillid seelings (about 2cm tall), but they have stayed the same size for 8 weeks, they are still green and have the two leaves each but seem to be doing nothing! They took a very long time to get this far. How can I get them to start again, they are in a mini greenhouse next to my bedroom window getting strong daylight all day. Has anyone else had similar problems? Any help would be much appreciated Thanks

I think perhaps that the cold nights are stopping them growing?
Might be worth bringing them indoors at night.

What compost are you growing them in? I've tried growing some of my chillies in coir based compost this year and they just weren't developing, so I ended up repotting them in a standard seed compost and the growth in 2 weeks was incredibly better than I'd managed in 3 months in the coir

I'm just growing them in regular MPC. Not sure if I just started them too early? This shouldnt matter that much indoors surely? Thanks

your not to early chillis are normally started off jan to feb indoors

we started ours in late feb in heated green house there now 2 to 3 foot tall and just started producing chillis

Think I may have missed the chance for this year then, may just need to wait and try again next year! Thanks for your replies!

Keep them growing and, if you have space, overwinter them indoors- you'll get a bumper crop next year!

What are they? Mine aren't that big yet. Cayennes and annum varieties grow much faster than the super hots. If you are growing some of those, it's worth persevering and getting them through winter. They often only give a few fruit in their first year and to add to that we've had a very cold Spring and everything is slow.
