A real nooby potato question

Ok guys, ill be honest here, growing spuds has never really been something that turned me on, but ive two 25 litre pots going spare and ive a dozen Lidl "new pots"( maris peer) that are sprouting.

So im gonna whack them in the pots and see how it goes but and heres the noob part lol,
if they produce, would they be new potatoes ?, i told you it was a nooby q

Also roughly how long would they take, off swatting

Maris Peer are a second early so will need about 16 weeks or so to come to harvest. Personally I would only put 3 at most in pots that size, 2 would be a better option

New potatoes have thin skin - the sort you can scrape off with the back of a knife.
Old potatoes have thicker skin that's normally peeled.
That's my definition - right or wrong I don't know.

Think you are right there VC. Usually eat the skins with the 1st and 2nd earlies as they are mainly boiled or steamed but not main crop as you usually chip, roast or mash them.

You could always take my approach if your feeling decadent - a few inches of compost, shove 2 in each pot, cover with a few more inches, water.......then when green bits start showing just keep on putting more compost on top......repeat till the pots are full.

I water when and if I remember and then about end Oct tip a pot out and if you are lucky - yum yum tatties.

Can you tell that I'm not an expert but I do try.....

So do i need to cut the seed pots in half or anything or just put them in as they are ?, thanks again.

Unless your seed spud is ma-hoo-sive they don't need to be cut in half.
