  • Plant ID Help Please - Could it be Raspberry?

I found this growing up in my raspberry container. I wondered if it was another raspberry bush or something else. Here's a photo of it:

It doesn't look much like raspberry to me. Could it be some kind of currant?

It's been in the PT for the last month or so but before that I had it outside and yes there are loads of trees around not in our garden but just about every variety going in neighbouring houses and the green park over the road from us.

I assumed it was raspberry merely because it was growing in the same pot but that's all

I've never seen a baby version so have no idea - but to me it looks almost like an oak leaf!!!

I'd say it was a birch sapling.

Oh dear, sounds like whatever it is is going to be too big for our garden!

I would have gone with a black currant. They seem to seed very easily on my plot. Do the leaves smell of anything if you squish them a little?

That was a great suggestion, Adam. I tried it and sadly it smells of nothing at all.

I have kept it, vixylix. It's in the PT in a little container. Doesn't look like it's grown much or anything but maybe it will stay dormant now until next spring.

I am not good at throwing anything away so will keep trying to grow it on unless it dies I guess.
