  • Replanting potatoes that r sprouting

I have potatoes sprouting and need to replant them in bigger area. Is it ok to do this? The plant part is 8 inches high.

Hello Wolf & welcome to the Vine, I can only speak personally but I wouldn't move them as you risk damaging the haulms & seed. Some others may say it's ok to move them if you take care...........It's a chance you take I guess.

      Hello and welcome.
Do you have to move them because they're overcrowded?

Are they volunteers? Ones that have sprouted from last year's crop? Either way if you do get away with moving them you will need to protect them or the frost will put pay to them.

The first year we had our plot we found lots of sprouting and chitted spuds as we dug out all the bindweed. At first I tossed then in a heap out the way, but after a few days there were a goodly number so I ended up planting them and got about 18ft row which provided some nice mid sized tubers. What have you got to lose?
